The ball portion of the Silver Sneakers class I subbed this morning. Because it was last minute I didn't think of recording the entire class, but SS instructors are always looking for ideas so hopefully this helps! By the way, this group likes to work hard so very few like to stay in the chairs, but all of this can be modified for the chair.

Music was from Power Music, 17 Again Volume 4.

  • Very nice! How do you call this kind of ball?

  • @MrsAlineves It's the standard ball issued for the SS classes - very light.

  • Very nice choreography! Most of the stuff I find online I already use in class but this will be new! Thank you, Thank you! Yaaaaaaay!

  • Interesting point. I remember using the "toss" move during my last review and nothing was said about it. An important cue to use with this is "if it falls out of reach, let it drop." There could be a danger of them reaching too far forward or backward in order to catch it.

No matter what we're doing balls roll away each class and there has never been an issue with them getting under foot. But it's definitely something to keep in mind. Thanks!

  • Very nice choreo. I do something similar for my classes. I would love to get some other instructors views on tossing the ball in the air when standing. I was actually penalized on my previous instructor review by our Silver Sneakers representative for bouncing the ball when standing. She said it was because members could trip on stray balls when standing. I have a feeling that it depends on who does the reviewing but I wonder if it's a standard rule? Thanks for sharing!
