For dropship attack consider heavy mech not assault. The point is greater mobility. By the way I completed campaign entirely on a heavy mech. Veteran difficulty. Lancemates really help.

Yeap it's better to send your lancemates in to attack the dropship then snipe it's engines from range. If there are APC's around the launch pad destroy them first.

I regularly demolish every single part of Aisa Thastus's mech in the trial of possession in order to disarm it. I still salvage her mech all the time. It changes yes, but it seems to be totally random.
