During the rescue of the Selendang Ayu, pilots of an HH-60 Jayhawk skillfully hover above the flight deck of Coast Guard Cutter Alex Haley during a bad storm in the Bering Sea. Despite rough seas, strong winds and heavy snowfall the pilots manage to maintain it's position over the rolling and pitching Cutter without colliding into it. Very impressive piloting.

  • @Redmanfms im a crewman in the navys sh60 seahawk. just the navys version and you're right there isnt a feature called auto hover its called radar altitude hold. one of 20 functions of the AFCS (automatic flight control system) the pilot has a function to pull into a hover automatically usint AUTOMATIC APPROACH HOVER. then dials in the altitude desired. then the AFCS goes to work using the radar altimiter and keeps the aircraft at that altitude despite the sea state. • that man was born in the chopper!

  • Just to show how the best training and the best equipment is a recipe for succes.

  • he is not on the deck, he is behind the ship deck otherwise they would be all dead.

  • This video shows that flying a helicopter is infinitely more complicated than an airplane.

  • how about umm... the ground effect of the waves?

  • I think it is a best pilot of the world...very bad sea and wheater condition to rescue... he had a cold blood...

  • @Khmerdragon7887 i fly in the navy sh 60 and their deffinatly is. AFCS automatic flight control system has 20 different functions. i could list them for you but i assume you already know since you know "everything" about helicopters...
