Roger Waters wrote the album about his own life growing up. How his father died when he was young, and his mother was over-bearing, and his teachers hated him, and eventually he felt like he has lost touch with everyone (including his fans), and thus built a giant wall between him and everyone else. But, there were references to Syd Barrett in it. Such as when he shaves his whole body. Barrett did that after having a mental breakdown.

Amazing but sent me on a rollercoaster. Not a good idea to watch 1st time taking acid like I just did last night... It may have been scary to me but I felt pure emotions that I know I will never feel sober. The mind is a very powerful thing but its yours and your in control.
