Definitely one of the worst inflections I have ever heard on a reporter/commentator. By that, I am alluding to his commentary not the way he says his name. Comical and very annoying...

Yea you're all wrong. Tuipoloa is his chief title, given to him from his Samoan family. His given name is Evan.
It is not 'meant' to be pronounced as he says it. It's literally how it reads. The a at the end does not need the extra ''aaaaa''. I think he just got into a habit of that or something. Or maybe dats his 'mark' you know?

You can't get a job in SBS if you don't have an ethnic name. just as well he has ''tuipolooooooa' before the rest of his boring anglo name "Evan Charlton':)

The reason he says it with a long o is because that is actually how his name is said. It's Samoan, and Samoan has both short vowels and long vowels. Long vowels can sound strange to native English speakers.

Speaking with one of the presenters from the TVNZ netball coverage at a press conference last year, she said it was his tribal name or something like that.
