    WoW The 3DO wasn't as good as the... Genesis and SNES and such... but its Soundtrack to doom is a little tad better than the SNES one

    In most versions (including the PC version if you're not playing it on some DOS emulator) the guitar is sampled, like here. So it's no wonder it sounds good.
