Marc Stoiber asks is social media killing the environmental movement?
About TEDx, x=independently organize event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-
organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.
At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep
discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized
events are branded TEDx, where x=independently organized TED event.
The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but
individual TEDx events are self-organized.*

So the idea worth spreading in all this is??? Social media is a distraction to real environmental activism! Wow! The speaker should correct his website ... this is not a TED Talk but a TEDxVancouver talk ... just an oversight I guess.

I hope Marc's audience had the presence of mind to look up and stop typing. He deserves our undivided attention.

Slacktivism is definitely an issue today, and Marc did a great job of painting the picture. We are lulling ourselves into thinking real change is happening, when all it has been is some talk, a lot of comments, a few fans, and a ton of useless "likes". Let's ask ourselves how we are starting with ourselves, and changing those around us.
