Admittedly i do not know much about farm subsidies. Just to get me started I would like someone (regardless of political affiliation, gender, religious preference, etc) to explain it to me in terms as basic as you would like.
The 3 questions are: What are farm subsidies? Why were they started/created? Why do we need them?
Of course I am doing my own independent reading. But I would like to hear from someone else about this. For now I am indifferent, only because I am not informed. Thanks

Here is the reality. Farms are a business. If the business isn't working you find something else to do. Since when is farming any different than any other profession, job or career.
When millions of American's lose their small business's I don't see them getting subsidized. Agriculture in this country supports the hiring of illegal aliens and at the same time collects millions of taxpayer dollars. If you can't make a living as a farmer on your own, go find another career.

Subsidies - compensations for massive losses vs full costs-average (ie 1981-2006 except 1996, USDA-ERS) 3 more land-more loss-more subsidy. 4. So US exported at a loss, billions. 5. to "subsidize" agbiz buyers. 6. ERS: 5 studies Farmers <0 even with subsidies 7. Besides, only 2% of Americans are farmers anymore. We also import far more crops than ever before. I mean, if American farmers all failed, that still means 98% would be fine. I don't eat fruits and veggies anyway, so big deal. And new Zealand tried getting rid of subsidies and it WORKED! Farmers there are doing fine as ever.
This is a program which has outlived its usefulness. But Democrats don't wanna lose their agricultural voting bloc, and farmers have strong lobbies.

Just end the damn subsidies. There's no evidence that all farmers would suffer without them. They already can make plenty of money on their own selling crops in the market. I'm tired of enabling inefficiency or rewarding overproduction with gov't checks. Let's have a TRUE free market for once! No subsidies, no exceptions. Everyone should be allowed to fail or succeed. If they fail, that means they should try a different job or get new job skills. doesn't mean gov't has to step in.
