Every last Friday, local bike riders gather at the Alamo and take a ride around and through urban central San Antonio, TX. This Last Friday ride went from the Alamo, through St Paul Sq, Sunset Station, Hemisfair, King William and then West to OLLU, and Woodlawn Park. It was a great ride, despite the lil jog onto smaller park trails. I arrived just a bit late, but my group of friends caught up to the big group within a few minutes. Great fun and a great way to support and improve urban biking standards in the city of San Antonio. Thanks to all who help organize and keep it going! Had fun, except for that last "hill" toward Woodlawn Park! yikes burning legs! Check out the Links for more information.

  • that looks like fun! :-)

  • @LukaIsntLuka It is, and once a month, is often enough for me, as far as the "long ride" is concerned, otherwise weekly rides are under 5 miles, and a few hours!

  • One day I'll be there.. even if it means I'll zip along with my zimmerframe, the time it'll probably take me to get over the pond.. :)

  • @BasicModelling Once you stop thinking about it, your realize youve gone 10 miles!!

  • Are there designated bicycle lanes? Completely blocking the road with bikes is not recommended. We have "bike to work" days in Rhode Island, but as our suburbs are distant from the downtown, it does only fair. The best urban planning, would be housing and business in close proximity.

  • @Blargaldalien We have in the past few years gotten some bike lanes, but not near the amount we need. With a group that lg, we have designated stewards who prepare the intersections for us. Some cars dont like that, but we do try to follow the rules! Bike to Work Days should be more often, especially up there in little RI where its cooler to bike! The growth and development is improving in downtown, thanks to groups and organizations like this that show you can work and play in downtown!! Thanks

  • That is very cool Cooksterz!

  • That's a lot of bikes

  • Cool! It reminds me of bike-a-thons that I was involved in for charity back in the 70s

  • @Blargaldalien There are bicycle lanes in San Antonio. You can spot most of them by looking for where the cars are parked or trashcans are placed. Bicycle lanes here seem to be designated crap accumulators rather than places to ride a bike.

  • On the last Friday of every month here there's always one or two naked riders.

  • @cooksterz yay famous! :) I have your samsara wheel pic + the hand doodle on the wall of my new house-at the top of the stairs :) I just don't have any visitors to comment on anything! Biking is a wonderful hobby, especially for keeping fit! When I used a bike as my main transport for a year in Wales I was the fittest I've ever been! I've never been able to get into travel without destination though, doesn't seem to be in my nature, even though sometimes I do seem to circle around a lot! x

  • Aunt Veronica you are. Goes to show you can do what ever your heat desires
