Co-operative living and going to CYL really opens your mind and heart to people. Riki-Kay Middleton is an unashamed booster of the Co-operative Young Leaders program (CYL), a unique leadership, communication and co-op skills development camp experience that enriches the lives of young people throughout Ontario. Riki-Kay learned about the camp from a neighbour in the housing co-op in which she lived, and enrolled in all three years of the program.
In fact, she appreciated her experience as a participant so much, she continues to come back to CYL camp as a Facilitator. Now its my job to encourage the youth to open up and allow them the same experience I was able to have.
Riki-Kays strong passion for the co-operative experience and her enthusiasm for the CYL program earned her the Co-operative Youth Leadership Award, which was presented as part of the 7th Annual Co-operative Gala and Spirit Awards ceremony held in Burlington, ON last night.
Riki-Kay and her family live in Beaver Creek Housing Co-op in Waterloo, ON. She credits the housing co-op as being a very positive influence in her life. Kim Connors, who is the Co-ordinator of Beaver Creek Housing Co-operative, and who nominated Riki-Kay, enthuses, If you are lucky enough to have her share her co-op experiences with you, it is impossible not to walk away with a little more perk in your co-op step.
