The Haight/Ashbury neighborhood in San Francisco is perhaps best known for its influence on the hippie movement and the Summer of Love in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Today it has become far more popularised and is now a place for tourists to come snap a few photos, buy some overpriced trinkets, stare at the remaining hippies, catch a performance by a street-musicial and head onwards. Still, it remains an interesting mix of old and new, as many of the street's residents have been there for decades and are more than willing to let you know how much better "The Haight" was back in the day.

  • My Dad lived there in 1968 - I'd bet there are a whole lotta stories he wouldn't tell me! LOL!

  • @Django5198 No, I was in SF for a schoolproject and as I am European, I only had a visitor's visa.. so three months was the max. I wish I could stay longer. Price wise, I don't know about expensiveness.. A few things were more expensive than in The Netherlands.. Such as milk and yogurt.. In the Netherlands you pay 60 ct (80ct $) for a liter..

  • @fcuktim why did you live there for so little time? Is is expensive?
