i cant say if this performance is the best of all cuz i aint seen this Opera ever, however i can say Renée's voice is one of the most beautiful i've heard and the way she plays the role in this scene is incredible! it really touchs my heart every time i watch the video..

I am not a great fan of Fleming at all but for some reason, i think she makes the *best* Countess Almaviva ever .. it takes a pretty "easy" voice and solid technique to sing in such a relaxed pose as well! Her acting is absolutely astounding and her voice is so beautiful. Such a moving performance, i'm actually crying while i'm writing.

She sings "Porgi amor" better than anyone else, absolutely ANYONE! And I'm not even a great fan of hers. I just think she understands what the feeling for this piece is.

it's opera, you don't have to be a certain body size for this
OperaLover 84 - I love your comment! In her autobiography, Ms. Fleming described her voice as being a big net that she can cast out onto the audience to draw them into what she is singing. I had the pleasure if seeing her in Boston in February singing Strauss with the BSO and, my impression was that her voice is more like a big, warm, luxurious fur coat (I don't wear fur myself) that you just wanted to climb inside of and snuggle. Such yummy richess in her voice. Brava, indeed!

She captures the 'desperate housewife' look very well in this piece.
