Detailed instructions on how to build a shelf-style animal home.

Tools needed are a circular saw, a chop saw, jig saw, electric drill, bits, holesaw, screwdriver, sissors, measuring tape, pencil, and paper for planning.

Materials needed are wooden boards, metal brackets, screws, metal hinges, latches, breadbox, wooden ladders, carpeting, wire mesh, and habitrail tubing.

Many zoos use this kind of home, except they use wide, deep moats, e.g. elephants are sometimes kept like this. Short tailed opossums, domesticated fancy rats and mice can be kept in a shelf style home. These three species are naturaly cautious of heights, so (unless very motivated) will stay in their home.
