Blue Skies in Coal Country

Datong is famous for two things, its ancient history and its coal. The latter has recently made the former very difficult to promote as the city has been dubbed coal capital and has a reputation for smog. However the push for clean air in Beijing during the 2008 Olympics has meant the local population has been enjoying clear blue skies and fresh air as local heavy industries are closed down.
