This video accompanies a mix of live microphones picking up the ambient soundscape and contact microphones picking up sounds from the wires and metal structures I constructed. All the objects and materials were found around my yard. The mix was made live in-situ and was subject to the given conditions. The video is edited from clips made on site recorded on a Panasonic DMC-TZ7. A higher quality HD version is available on my Vimeo page http://www.vimeo.com/jgrzinich

  • I guessing you probably like monolake's (robert henke's) work. Quite similar to what you have done but with beats. Excellent work

  • I don't really use any synthesized sounds. What you hear is what you see. From what I've heard of monolake I'm not sure if he uses acoustic sounds or if its all electronic. Do you know?

  • I build my own contact mics using fairly standard piezos. I should probably make an instruction guide on my website. They are easy to make.

  • Also I filmed with motion JPEG as I don't find the AVCHD Lite codec very good if you actually want to edit the video shot with this camera.

  • The original is more smooth (except for my shaky hand movements). That is a problem with the YouTube and and Vimeo codecs. You can download the original from Vimeo for a limited time. I edited it in Final Cut Express, made some slight color adjustments and exported it as 720p in H.264.

  • As far i'm aware its a mixture. Some are acoustic and others electronically processed through ableton live to create digital instruments.

  • Please do post a tutorial. It would be greatly appreciated by many. Myself included!

  • very nice indeed.

i'm about to do some field recordings too but i need some contact mics. do you use any self-made gear in your work? because i really like exploring sounds by means of diy accesories. if you do, please answer.

  • The pans are jerky looking. Is it that way on your computer at home? You've just posted, so might take awhile to settle in. It's that way on Vimeo as well. Otherwise interesting concept. What editing program did you use?
