Imagine if a group of arabs in say Pakistan, or Afghanistan, got together and decided to democratically ellect Al-Qaeda to power.
Would that seem absurd?
It would seem even more absurd if we took them seriously.
That's how we Jews see Hezbollah, or Hamas. They may have been democratically ellected but they are no more a democratic body politic to be taken seriously then Al-Qaeda or the Taliban.
It's like ellecting Al Capone Mayor of Chicago then expecting him to clean things up.
