@wallabeetles Woops, I meant AR. not Alaska :p

I went there one time some years ago! It was really fun. We drove from California to Memphis to see Graceland (avid Elvis fan at like 13) and I tell you being in AK was the highlight of my trip. We were caught in a big storm and the streets were a bit flooded and the owners of this small little shop let us relax on their couches and eat candy while we waited for it to calm down. Man, they were so friendly and welcoming there. I would love to go back, even if we didn't find anything significant.

@dixired1950 Also, learn to read. I said that people will sometime buy rough african diamonds online and TRY to pass them off as diamonds from the crater. TRY is the key word. Rough african diamonds look nothing like the ones found at the crater. I can't tell you how mad some people get when they would try to do this and we WOULDN'T certify them as from the mine. When people bring us diamonds from the field, we can easily tell if they are truly from the crater or if someone is trying to BS us.
-
@dixired1950 Sorry but I'm not the ignorant one here. If you say that they "salt" the mine and at the same time say that you have found diamonds that number in the "thousands", do you have any idea how much money that would cost? Never mind that geologists have proven that diamonds naturally occur here. Nice conspiracy theory. Did you come up with it all by yourself? Oh, and it's spelled "ignorance" not ingorance lol!
-
@camsangel25 Ididn't come up with any crap! The director of the parks and tourism comm. richard davies came up with it. I am a old diamond miner with 3 decades of diamond mining experance and i have found diamonds that would number into the thousands. I will excuse your ingorance and disrespect. Oh and thank you for admitting that park officials know that visitors are turning in internet diamonds. The truth is out.
-
@dixired1950 Where did you come up with that crap? I worked at the mine for several years. There is no such policy as you are referring to. There are naturally occurring diamonds at the mine and you can keep what you find. Usually the only people who say stuff like you are the people who didn't find anything or the "diamond" that they found was not certifiable. ie they tried to pass off a rough African diamond as one from the mine.

Don't fall for the CRATER OF DIAMONDS SCAM. Park policies won't allow you to find real arkansas diamonds. most people buy one off the internet then take it to the diamond search area, put the diamond in a small amount of gravel and dirt then look thru the dirt until they find the diamond. that is how diamonds are being found at the crater.

does it cost anything....?

It's better to go in spring or fall. Too hot in July August.
I thought it was all a put on,but I actually seen a diamond that the lady camping next to us found!
-
Really! You SEEN it?
I worked here for three years and if you go be ready for a disapointment. It is a flat top area that you must dig in the open. Its a small area and a lot of work. Yes diamods are naturally here. The state would loose money if they came in and manufactured the diamonds themselves, but its perfect as a park. Its also the only diamond mine open to the public in the USA.

We didn't find any diamonds, but there was a guy right in front of us when we were checking our "stones" that did have a couple. Anyway, we had a good time and it was something different for us to do!
