previously uploaded and edited for the former 10-minute time limit, this is the complete version of an episode of 'Search for Tomorrow', which aired on March 29, 1962..in this episode, Marge Bergman (Melba Rae) reels from Monica's decision about the adoption, and goes to best-frienda Joanne and Arthur for solace..

this version has a different sponsor and different commercials from the original upload.......

  • Was the actor who played Wally the same actor who played Ruth Martin's first husband Ted Brent on All My Children?

  • @formerlymiddleclass no..Ted Brent was played by Mark Dawson, who died in 2007 at age 86..if memory serves, Ted was 'killed off' in a car accident six months into AMC's run, trying to prevent 'son' Philip from learning the truth about his parentage...

  • Was she ever mentioned in the final "SFT" eps.?

  • @bluenail03 i don't think that kind of sentimentality existed back in those days when a show was about to go off the air..about five years after Marge died, Stu remarried to Ellie Harper..from what little i remember, their marriage didn't last that long and Ellie eventually 'left town'...hard to believe it's been 60 YEARS since SFT first started in 1951 - about six weeks b'4 Lucy first hit the airwaves......

  • Didn't the actress that played Marge commit suicide in '71 or so?

  • @bluenail03 according to the IMDb: "from 1951 until her untimely death from a cerebral hemorrhage in 1971, Melba Rae was best known for her portrayal of "Marge Bergman", best friend to "Joanne Gardner", on the soap opera Search for Tomorrow"..at the time, i thought i read something about a heart attack...with so many 'cover stories', and other contradictory sources, it's hard to know what to believe....

  • @tomservo56954 Still sounds like him anyway! Haha

  • @stopthemachine No, I wouldn't say so...

  • Who in the real world would farm out their teenage stepson to another couple? Especially if it's to marry someone?

  • Melba Rae died of a stroke (cerebral hemorrhage) just days after the show's Christmas Party. She had been in good health and it hit the cast hard. SFT didn't play out Marge's death on camera. Months later, over having a cup of coffee at Joanne's house, Stu told Joanne how hard it had been to carry on after Marge had died. It was quite an emotional scene. I remember it vividly to this day.

  • What a shame that I Love Lucy show didn't have Lucy and Ethel watching soap operas. It would have been great promotion. Oh well.

  • I actually sent a sympathy card to Melba Rae's widower, and received a very nice acknowledgement card and photo of 'Marge.' The cast had just held a Christmas party (1971), and Melba died a day or two later.

    It was a cerebral hemorrhage.
