Makedon is a very old Greek name from the oringins of being Greek and Hellas. Not accidentally did we Greeks have the Gods' abode on the Macedonian mountain, Olympus.

Alexander's father, Phillip, won several equestrian victories at Olympia and Delphi. The two most revered sanctuaries in Hellas where non-Greeks were not allowed.
