Hear the Supernova attempt to make sounds like Duran Duran on their Rio album. The Supernova needs to be twiddled, it has 3 oscillators not all are needed to recreate early synth sounds. Here is an attempt at sounding like Save A Prayer which has those two memorable synth lines both recreated here.

LATEST NEWS: There is now an official DVD out that gives some detail into how the whole Rio album was made.
Nick R, John (bass), Roger (drums) and Simon leB go into some detail on their parts. Also included are background to that artwork, and what they had to do for the US market.
They appear to use the original 24T for example too. News for me was the construction of the bass line, and how Simon comes up with the lyrics, you'll be surprised.
Check out EREDV693 for the DVD

  • What software are you using to sequence the Supernova? Thanks, Mark

  • @MarkSpaniel The sequencer is just a basic Cakewalk item, nothing special at all. However I much prefer non-PC sequencers as they are much tighter.

  • Hi. Great video! Can you please tell me which patch you used on the Supernova? I understand you need to play around with effects etc but which was the basic sound from the library you started with? Thanks for your help.

  • @dazzybabe1 Not wishing to sound evasive, I would have just found a similar sound and then "twiddled".

  • Thumbs up for the Nick Rhodes outfit.

  • damn it sold my nova about 3year ago to shop in north london, really good replication one of the best actually, i like how u have explained the use of the reverb and delay although its obvious to some but not to others, i am still wond ering what type of osc is used sqaure or trinagle.

  • liberace is still alive? just kiddin. great job.

  • Very nice demo. This is possibly the most perfectly elegant musical piece ever written :) The individual parts are so simple - but when you combine them it takes you away to Heaven.

  • Great video, excellent job on Save a prayer. Duran Duran is my favorite band of all time. Rio is their best work in my opinion.

  • Very nicely done! Now I've an idea of what my Supernova can do :-)
