By cheap update I meant getting a new product in one line of products. The better term would be upgrade. If you wish to advance to a new version of Windows then it will cost you more than getting a new version of OSX.

You only get free lifetime updates and upgrades for Linux but for now that's merely a kernel, officially. Most desktop Linux-based systems aren't consistent and their standards rather confuse people than help them get the job done. I hope they get solid soon.

OSX is cheaper and whenever a new version is available you get cheap update for like 30$. I'd rather use this for business where up-to-date software is crucial and getting it should not be a big financial stress. Also stable and reliable hardware to run it makes sure business goes well uninterrupted. As for servers there's Linux, also cheap or free.

For home ussage Windows is better since you can use illegal copy but at the office things might get ruff if you allow licensing problems to exist.

I love how there is one guy having one problem with one mac, and automatically the fanboys start comparing and making drastic comparisons and generalisations immediately. No OS is perfect, certainly not OS X and certainly not Windows.
