KISS OFF - Violent Femmes Ukulele Cover

After the wearing a hula girl costume in a Hawaiian restaurant for my last ukulele video, I figured I should perform something a little more serious. But what? I always seem to enjoy performing songs when others pick them for me, so I put out a status update this morning on MySpace with the following question:

What song would you least expect to see done as a ukulele cover tune?

I got some great responses, and I thank everyone who offered a suggestion. I was tempted to try my hand at the 1812 Overture, but I had no idea where I'd find cannon on a limited budget.

For not the first time, a thought came to me as I was putting this together. Are my music videos just elaborate excuses to play "dress up" by myself?

That said, I'm really happy with the final product here. I'm pretty sure you'll like it. Can you believe this song is almost THIRTY YEARS OLD now? For that reason, I decided to bust out a gray wig I got at the thrift store recently.

As suggested by Bity, our fine friend from Guatemala (she's doing a nice blog series about the history of Central America, BTW), a song you wouldn't expect to be covered on the uke, Kiss Off by The Violent Femmes.
