@Mahanagaraja 40 sailors, usually joined by a mission package crew and an aviation detachment for a total crew of about 75. Automation allows a reduced crew, which greatly reduces operating costs, but workload can still be "grueling

At least this one would have a chance in the North Atlantic. Can't see the other 2 operating in anything over 2m seas for prolonged periods lol.

Lack of standardization will be a problem. Compare USS Fort Worth to USS Independence and USS Freedom. They are all different designs. This creates problems in interchangeability of parts and systems.
It's an interesting experiment, but that is all it is. An experiment.

In truth the savings is negligible. A crew of 40 maybe able to man the ship in port and starboard watch sections, but they will not be able to perform all the necessary maintenance to keep the ship functional. This vessel will require regular (privately run) shipyard periods for upkeep and maintenance, which will prove to be more expensive in the long run.
Mark my words. in five to ten years these ships will be in mothbals or wearing white and orange.

@Mahanagaraja this is all about cost savings. a ship of this size would have had a 100 man crew now it has but 40. it is for brown water misisons.nave wants 50 .one reson alone is crewing and 3 ships in one with the interchangable mission mods
so one ship to replace 3 = cost of 1 shipbeing built to repce 3 and 300 crew v 40 . they see cost saving nuthign more

They couldn't put a 76mm Oto Melara (like the old PHM's) or a Mk 45 5"/54 on it? A 57mm... The Russians will tell you how effective a naval gun that is. 8km effective range isn't much in terms of modern naval warfare.
The 76/62 Otobreda super rapid would have been a better choice. A little over double the effective range of the 57mm
All in all the LCS project is pretty limited in it's usefulness. They will either be wearing Coast Guard white and orange or in mothballs in ten years time.

@daveo211 i got that from the Wikipedia . some one listed it in her Armament Armament
: BAE Systems Mk 110 57 mm gun
RIM-116 Rolling Airframe Missiles
Honeywell Mk 50 Torpedo
NETFIRES PAM missile in the ASuW module
2 .50-cal guns

No there is no built in torpedo launcher at all. If Freedom has one, it wouldbe part of an anti-sub mission module added later. All mission modules are removable as they see fit. That's the whole flexibility part of LCS.
