JOSEPH SMITH:
"The position is not assumed that the men of the New Dispensation —its prophets, apostles, presidencies, and other leaders—are without faults or infallible, rather they are treated as men of like passions with their fellow men." (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith).
President Brigham Young:
"We do not wish incorrect and unsound doctrines to be handed down to posterity under the sanction of great names, to be received and valued by future generations as authentic and reliable, creating labor and difficulties for our successors to perform and contend with, which we ought not to transmit to them .... We know what sanctity there is always attached to the writing of men who have passed away, especially to the writing of an Apostle . . . therefore we feel the necessity of being watchful upon these points (Ibid, p. 232)."
"when he sends forth his discourses to the world they may call them Scripture." I say now, when they are copied and approved by me they are as good Scripture as is couched in this Bible, and if you want to read revelation read the sayings of him who knows the mind of God, without any special command to one man to go here, and to another to go yonder, or to do this or that, or to go and settle here or there. ("Latter-Day Saint Families, etc.," Journal of Discourses, reported by D.W. Evans and John Grimshaw, (2 January 1870), Vol. 13 (London: Latter-day Saint's Book Depot, 1871), 95--95.).
President Joseph Fielding Smith:
"It makes no difference what is written or what anyone has said, if what has been said is in conflict with what the Lord has revealed, we can set it aside. My words, and the teachings of any other member of the Church, high or low, if they do not square with the revelations, we need not accept them. Let us have this matter clear. We have accepted the four standard works as the measuring yardsticks, or balances, by which we measure every man¹s doctrine. You cannot accept the books written by the authorities of the Church as standards of doctrine, only in so far as they accord with the revealed word in the standard works. Every man who writes is responsible, not the Church, for what he writes. If Joseph Fielding Smith writes something which is out of harmony with the revelations, then every member of the Church is duty bound to reject it. If he writes that which is in perfect harmony with the revealed word of the Lord, then it should be accepted" (Doctrines of Salvation, comp. Bruce R. McConkie, 3 vols., (Salt Lake City: Bookcraft, 1954--56), 3:203--204).
Bruce R. McConkie:
"The books, writings, explanations, expositions, views, and theories of even the wisest and greatest men, either in or out of the Church, do not rank with the standard works. Even the writings, teachings, and opinions of the prophets of God are acceptable only to the extent they are in harmony with what God has revealed and what is recorded in the standard works." (Mormon Doctrine, 2nd edition, (Salt Lake City: Bookcraft, 1966),
Church President Harold B. Lee gave some timeless council in 1972:
"I say that we need to teach our people to find their answers in the scriptures. If only each of us would be wise enough to say that we aren't able to answer any question unless we can find a doctrinal answer in the scriptures! And if we hear someone teaching something that is contrary to what is in the scriptures, each of us may know whether the things spoken are false—it is as simple as that. But the unfortunate thing is that so many of us are not reading the scriptures. We do not know what is in them, and therefore we speculate about the things that we ought to have found in the scriptures themselves. I think that therein is one of our biggest dangers of today (Ensign, Dec. 1972, p. 3)."
"If anyone, regardless of his position in the Church, were to advance a doctrine that is not substantiated by the standard Church works, meaning the Bible, the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price, you may know that his statement is merely his private opinion. The only one authorized to bring forth any new doctrine is the President of the Church, who, when he does, will declare it as revelation from God, and it will be so accepted by the Council of the Twelve and sustained by the body of the Church. And if any man speak a doctrine which contradicts what is in the standard Church works, you may know by that same token that it is false and you are not bound to accept it as truth" (Harold B. Lee, The First Area General Conference for Germany, Austria, Holland, Italy, Switzerland, France, Belgium, and Spain of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, held in Munich Germany, August 24--26, 1973, with Reports and Discourses, 69).

Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people. The abolition of religion as the illusory happiness of the people is the demand for their real happiness. To call on them to give up their illusions about their condition is to call on them to give up a condition that requires illusions.

All one need do is read the Book of mormon (The truest book on earth-said Joseph Smith) to see the ridiculous things Mormons believe. The Book of Mormon and the made up story about the Lamanites has been scientifically proven to be worng by objective scientists. So tired of Mormons saying everyone is against them and if anyone calls them on their BS they say 'Oh well your in league with Satan". Ridiculous. I know the church has done the thinking for you

"Taken out of context" and "not doctrinal" are frequently used excuses when the words and writings of it's leaders are understood all to well.

Ok , Mormon " doctrine" is administered by the first presidency. ie The president and his 3 councillors, after being vetted by the 12 apostles ( a committee ) However with the death of Joseph Smith "Revelation" seems non existent. Can't help but notice the comparison of Prophesying ie: Joseph Smith v's all the succeeding mormon prophets . score: new revelation NIL . JS direct revelation filled volumes. Are we missing something ? what about whats not revelation.?

@Presbyterian4life It has never been an official doctrine and it isn't now, because even in Brigham Young's time the apostles could not agree on it, and it was never canonized.

Catholic theology is a moving target too. And like the speaker in this video Catholic apologists tend to claim that anything they don't agree with was "taken out of context". It's almost always about dodging the issue.

A little ghost town in El Dorado Hills is about to get very lively.
On May 7, horse-drawn wagons, a stagecoach, Pony Express riders, Mormon Battalion re-enactors and a gold panner will turn back the clock to Clarksville's late 1800s heyday.
