Here's an experiment in using the tenroi-on to control a micro korg and create a kind of "automatic solo machine."

The Tenori-on uses one layer set to random loop mode to send MIDI data out to play the korg. in random loop mode you can mark notes across the screen and a dot travels between them triggering each note when it gets there.

The korg is using a monophonic patch with the arpeggiator turned on and portamento enabled. the arpeggiators latch function is on, the spread is set to two octaves and the mode is set to random. Now when a note is triggered it randomly slips back and forth between that note and one octave higher.

Once a selection of notes is put into the tenori-on in random more you can "spin" the grid around on the screen. This creates a constantly changing pattern of notes that still fits in the key and might repeat every so often.

now all i have to do is switch scenes on the tenori and play with the filter sweep on the korg.

Not an actual song, more of a technical demo.

  • How come the tenori-on's lights are blue

  • custom mod.

  • yeah its just the camera, i was joshing you about the custom mod. When i went to see toshio in NY at the tenori launch he kept saying "white is best" when asked about diff colour lights. they had some beta tenoris, one had orange lights and i think one had red, in some of my other films they are not as blue and i think i'm using the same aiptekHD. weird.

  • no the midi is playing the korg. there is no audio passs through from the tenori to the korg. only midi

  • This is amazing.

  • damn i don't get it how the tenori works x.X

  • fuck this is pretty awesome :P how did you do it? tune is great aswell

  • White is best because at least with white leds you can make them look any color you want by change the color of the lightning. If you had red leds you would never be able to have them look totally blue for instance even with with a blue, it would be purple instead :)

  • It uses very small LED's. No reason why they can't be changed for different colours. But it would be time consuming because there are 256 of them. Per side!

I actually thought the blue colour here was a trick of the light for a moment?! White LED's sometimes look weird on camera..

  • How?

  • Sounds good..I want that setup
