  • Love your car man. I currently have a 99.5 TDI with a 140hp. Chiped and tuned, injectors, nozzles, pushing 18 psi on the stock turbo. I really enjoy that type of woosh sound you get from the factory setup (When you left off, like a blow off valve). This sound is produced from the stock waste gate on the turbo correct? Does this mean you have a upgraded turbo as I didn't hear it. It sounds amazing though pureee turbo I love it. Keep up the good work.

  • @thedominionx - The stock turbo is variable geometry so there is no wastegate. The sound is from the vanes opening/closing between shifts and the exhaust pressure between the head and turbo releasing through the turbo. The turbo in this video is stock (I have since upgraded).

  • I'm looking into getting a tdi soon. I love your exhaust but I think I'd like to keep the stock downpipe to keep everything where it is already happy. But the cat and muffler are going bye-bye. I really like the obnoxious sound of the turbo, could I achieve that by running a stock downpipe and perhaps 3-4 inch tubing on back?

  • @ewbowyer - If you just remove the cat/muffler it will sound very similar, just a little quieter and not quite so much "tunnell" sounding. Search on YouTube and you'll see quite a few examples of this. You might want a tip/turndown to help with highway drone - some cars are worse than others.

Try with stock size first to see if you like it before going to all the effort to run 3" or 4" (and go 3" it's much easier)

  • Any change in MPG? You don't even notice any faster spool up?

  • @tkelly27 - nothing measurable for MPG's or spool up. EGT's are significantly lower (~200F) compared to the OEM exhaust on a moderately modified car like mine.

  • @Specialized1993 On a DIESEL?

  • I have a 1.8t and have noticed that the car will not boost sitting in neutral and there has to be some sort of load on it (ie. driving). Is this car an automatic? If so, are you in drive the whole time during this video? I say this because I can see the car binding up as the power is increased.

What makes our cars do this? And how do they know when to boost/when not to boost? I mean how does it know the car is in neutral?

  • Their is no need for a 4'' Exhaust. It actually sometimes lowers the hp. Unless its pushing 800whp then keep it, but if not go back to a 2.5'' or 3'' exhaust, and same for the down pipe. . And if you ment the tip was 4'' then never mind. That can be as big as you want.

  • @DrStoooopid Ah, I didn't know that they changed the rule in '09. My bad!
