at the 5min mark he flicked two buttons, they were the aileron and elevaton dual rate switches, they make the servos move more or less depending whether dual rates are on or off

dave uses the floats simply for orientation during flight. and it makes for an easier landing

I meant float u can see far away if it been crash.

Probably because he is outside where the snow at. Also it is easier to see the float then the heli itself so it helps for the view. Remember when u land on the snow you're heli tend to sink a bit and yea there is some danger if the heli sink into the snow, very bad for electric. So the float help out. Also float, u can see far away if it landed somewhere.
