Traditional Irish song, there are versions somewhat longer than this one; I'd suggest that, in the first verse, 'new' should be 'true.'I've sung this for many years.

  • Great to hear from someone who recalls the great Al O'Donnell. I played with him more than once on the little stage of The Focus Theatre in Dublin, Sunday evenings. He played a gorgeous small Martin. Other times, other days. Many thanks.

  • Many thanks. Tuning is DAGDAD.

  • I just discovered your lovely cover of this song; thank you very much Fred! I play the mandolin family, but your picking inspired me to bring the guitar out of its case and try your tuning! :-) It was very helpful, therefore, that you kindly clarified that it is DADGAD. When trying to match your fingering and sound exactly, I realised that the capo should be at fret 3 and the tuning EBEABE (bass to treble). Thank you once again for your recording, Fred, and for the inspiration.

    Patrick. :-)

  • Fred this is extremely nice , its in the tradition and real , its in the vein of the definitive version by AL O Donnell but it has your own stamp on it , its a pure rendition with veuve and passion , extremely enjoyable
