The best way to find your own reasons for voting NO is to read the treaty:

If you have little time, read the table of contents and then the subjects of your interest.

  • NO SIDE: Shinners, Ganley, Socialists, Coir, Eirigi, UKIP, Le Pen, BNP.

YES SIDE: all international chambers of commerce, most independent economists, 3 main political parties, IFA, IBEC, SIPTU, ICTU, most major trade unions, Pfizer, Ryanair, Intel, Microsoft.

    Who you going to trust?

  • In this matter I rather trust the text of the treaty itself, and what I have learned about lobbyism in the EU.

If I really had to make up my mind on the advice of one of the two groups above, I would opt for the group that is not in power - the NO group.

Also, you miss out a couple of important ones on the NO side, such as UNITE, or 140 local councillors.

How do you know what most independet economists think, and how you know they are independent? Do you know their stock options?

  • bravo! *stands applauding*

  • thanks

  • The EU must surely be the world's first "democratic" institution where the ONLY directly-elected body ( the Parliament ) has NO POWER TO LEGISLATE (with the possible exception of Zimbabwe).

The EU has all the institutions of a real state in place (Eurojust,Europol, the Euro,Eu Parliament etc.) the only thing missing are us... THE CITIZENS !

This is what the Lisbon Treaty is really about, and why it's important to stop it in the name of democracy and freedom.

  • I agree with you, the EU is a far cry from democracy. The money that pays for thousands of lobbyist heavily influences most of its institutions, especially the Commission, but also the Parliament. Therefore, I am certain that we will only get more democracy if we get more direct democracy.

  • You can't just unite tens of countries under one union flag but not centralize it. "Yes" Lisbon treaty is necessity for that size of a unity. Otherwise some people like you will always pop up on internet and reject the rapid progress of EU without seeing the broader picture.

  • RIGHT TO PRIVACY ?

« Project Indect » is developing computer programmes which act as « agents » to monitor & process information from web sites ;discussion forums ;file servers ;networks and individual computers for "abnormal behaviour" .THIS PROJECT HAS EU FUNDING. All this info could then be used by SitCen ( the EUs « secret service »).

The EU already has its own para-military (EGF) and has granted its police (Europol) immunity from criminal prosecution.

    Ireland,PLEASE stop Lisbon 2 !
