Introduced in 1937, and designed specifically for the German army, the Walther P-38 was one of the finest side arms used during the Second World War. Larry Potterfield, Founder and CEO of MidwayUSA, examines the P-38 in this GunTec presentation. This pistol was chambered for the 9m Luger cartridge and features an eight round magazine. The firearm is a double action design with an exposed hammer. While the exact production numbers are unknown, specimens in excellent condition are becoming increasingly rare.

  • awesome pistol

  • Unique little guy that rarely jams, and has a great grip.

I can only imagine what people thought of that gun 70 years ago.

I'm still surprised that they never released a Walther P-5 built on a Polymer Frame, with a double stack magazine.

Since with grip panels, The P38 and P5 are around the same thickness as a glock 17.

    Thanks for the vids.

  • the transformer, send me

in the movie the main antagonist used a full auto converted walther p38

  • Come on Walther, it's time for an updated P-38 !

  • Good video!

  • Awesome review.

  • @ldgrey1963 The P-38 has a steel frame; the alloy frame was a post-war change to minimize cost. I've heard of people taking the slide off of their P-1 and putting it onto a steel frame. Walther eventually had to add a reinforcing pin to the alloy frame, because it didn't stand up to stress as well as the originals.

  • I have a P-1 (Civilian updated) version of this fine pistol. I plan to get a P-38 to add to my collection. I really like shooting the P-1. Are the P-38's a steel frame or alloy frame?
