Mae West, like many other vaudeville stars, was multi-talented and multi-accomplished. Can anyone tell if she's actually playing the guitar at any time in this clip? I don't mean what you hear, but is her fret work accurate? Just curious.

By that way - this is the film that basically ended her movie career. She was never able to fully rise from the scandal this film created. Parts of it were permanently deleted and the negatives destroyed, so we'll never know what all the fuss was really about.

Very true, she was multi talented, but I don't think she is really playing the guitar during this.. Being truly talented is a rare thing these days, and the more I learn about the "Real Stars" like Mae West, the more I admire and respect them

A friend of mine worked for Mae as a desk clerk at the Ravenswood Apartments. She said Miss West had a heart of gold and treated everyone with kindness and respect.

A movement led by religious groups tried to de-sex/violence films, Mae West's in particular. "Klondike Annie" caused enormous controversy by her playing a Salvation Army type. Many felt this blasphemous. They cut 2 scenes - where she stabs her Asian lover in self defense and where she trades clothes with a dead missionary - too much for 1936.

Her Paramount contract expired shortly after and, disgusted with Hollywood she went back to the stage, and remained productive and creative for years.

I have a couple of friends that knew her. One of the friends was a handsome young male arm piece for her appearances. She really knew how to play the bachelorette well.

Mae West was absolutely great and so gorgeous. She was a liberated woman than never cried over a man in any of her films. She was always in control and this threaten male authority over women. Therefore, the censors went wild. I loved all her films and when I saw her last film, Sextette, with the another great, Timothy Dalton, I new that she was no longer in control because there were blondes in the film. I miss her and her humor and humanity.
