@Kela89 There is, believe it or not, an explanation of the dress: Phil Silvers (playing the piano) sees Rita come in first and actually says, of her cover-girl success: "Stores sending over pretty dresses to you (to model) for free...ho-hum!!" Rita does a little twirl in the dress and curtsies a thank-you, but is still unseen by Gene as he fixes some of the chandelier lights. It's a cute scene, but I wish they danced more than they did.

Internet is just fantastic! I was listening to this song sung by Chet Baker, and telling my companion that it is from a very famous filmed that I loved and watched over & over again on Channel 9's Million Dollar Movie, when I was a kid, but that I just couldn't remember the name of the film. 5 minutes later it has been googled & the film title, 'Cover Girl, ' comes up with this YouTube excerpt from the film.
Miracle!

I'm sorry, but... I love Rita Hayworth, in my mind she was one of a very few women who have class. BUT this dress looks like a huge meringue. I did't see this movie; maybe this particular dress has an explanation in this movie. Anyway, they were, and will be most adorable couple in mainstream's cinematography.

@ziegfeldman I agree about I'm Old fashioned100%! Beautiful song, even more beautiful Rita, and dancing you'll never see on film again.

@cootercat486 From all I've read, he had his wild days when he was still on Broadway, pre-MGM. He was already dating his first wife, but she was so much younger than him, still a teenager, and I guess he wanted to wait til they were married, so he 'dined out' instead... He seems to have been a devoted family man - turning down plum roles because they meant he'd be away from his 2nd wife when she was ill for instance.
Gene Kelly was a fabulous man not only in the movies, but in real life...look at the temptations he faced with the beautiful women he performed with...but you never heard anything unsavory about him. He was always loving and loyal to his wife and family. I love him!

@cootercat486 I agree with you about Gene, he did really love his family and he was heart broken when his 2nd wife died. But the paparazzi was different in those times and numerous stars had multiple affairs but no one knew because no one said anything. People knew how to keep their mouth shut back then.

@marilynmortician I agree. Decades ago, Loretta Young gave birth to a baby girl which was fathered by Clark Gable. Few people knew about it. Young disappeared to Europe for a few months before giving birth and that was it. Today, ruining careers is a cottage industry,.. what a shamel

@mattjackleroy I had heard about Loretta Young. Marion Davies also had a child fathered by William Randolph Hearst and it wasnt known until after their death. I totally agree with you about ruining careers. Whatever they chose to do or not do is their business. I wish things were the similar now.

SeeYouOnRt66 @cinci.rr.comThis is my favorite Kerns- Gershin collaboration. And my favorite Gene Kelly movie........ yes.... even more so than Singing in the Rain. I have learned something interesting about watching old movies........................and that is.....that I am in love with a lot of deceased women. Wasn't Rita Hayworth just beautiful here. I may be wrong but I think Martha Mears dubbed for Rita here. But I don't care.......I still watch and love her as much as ever.

@TheRealTommyJoe This is my favorite Gene Kelly movie too. Everyone assumes singing in the rain but I love this one! And I agree with you about being in love with deceased movie stars! How funny!
