Ignaz Holzbauer (1711-1783)
'Der Tod der Dido' (1779/1780)
Opera in 1 act
First there was an Italian opera
'La morte di Didone' (1779) that he
later (1780) revised in German.
Libretto: Anton Klein after Metastasio
(Most of it seems to be a faithful,
word by word translation)
Dido's aria
'So durch den Herz die Liebe'

Yep- this opera is most definitely one of the best out there, as far as I'm aware.
Why haven't I heard of this guy before, though? He did compose excellent music.

I'm quite fond of this aria in particular, it may very well be the best aria on my channel. I'm always "in love" with my latest upload so that may cloud my judgment a bit though.
Anyway, it's certainly in top 3 or top 5
:D

Help me with the first line here. Is it 'So durch den Herz die Liebe'?
Anyway, I have a feeling that the text
for this aria is based on Metastasio's
'Va lusingando Amore' but I'm not sure.
I don't know any of the languages involved
well enough.
