Roof Top Ledger board installation by a Do It Yourself Homeowner, the Aluminum Awning is attached to the ledger board instead of the wall or fascia board by using 90 degree brackets and a 2" x 8" Douglas Fir Ledger Board. This ledger board can be used for Alumaood Patio Covers, Alumawood Arbor Lattice or Standard Aluminum Patio Covers.

  • This particular house has a gutter that will catch the water from the roof.

A house without a gutter could have Flashing installed from the back of the Ledger Board to the roof.

  • Very good point, it is possible water could penetrate through and over time cause some water damage and or dry rot. The bolts are installed beyond the wall line which does help reduce the risk of water getting into the house and the bolt holes are sealed with caulking. If installed correctly the risk of water leaks are very low.

  • What about water runoff???

  • Wow. Show me 1 roofing manufacture that allows things bolted through the shingles. I know for a fact GAF Materials does not. Horrible way to cause leaks and future wood rot.
