I visited the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh last month! The building was quite cool (from the inside... I didn't really like the ouside)

I really liked the way the Scottish say Edinburgh xD

Actually, I find this incredibly interesting. What is it about Scots that makes it a language and not a dialect? It sounded a lot like Middle English pronunciations to me. I also think it's interesting that your tone was higher when you were speaking Scots, but went deeper when you said the words that didn't have translations in Scots. I think it's interesting that certain languages require not only a change in vowels and consonant pronunciations, but a change in tone, or other qualities.

@TheIrishred11 Actually, in Scotland, people talk like that, the Scottish humour is different from the rest of the world because while places may slightly take the piss of themselves, we hold up a mirror and say 'this is who we are'. That's why it's the 'Scottish dialect'. I found the video funny :D And some Scottish people want independance from the UK- I know I do.

I am from the U.S. and I am wondering why those of you in Scotland are not outraged? It sounded to me like they were making fun of the dialect without any remorse in that document he read. I actually very interested in Scotland in many ways and have been trying to follow what lineage I have there for some time now. I just didn't think it was fair of any governmental organization would pigeon whole an entire country so moronically like that.

seems weird that they would come up with a new spelling for a different dialect. You wouldn't find the US Senate website in ebonics now would you?
