Rinat Ibragimov, principal double bass of the London Symphony Orchestra, together with Catherine Edwards, performs Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf's Double Bass Concerto, originally written in Es Major but performed here a semitone lower.

This popular piece of double bass repertoire is commonly called for in auditions, and here Rinat demonstrates its performance using the original bass part and the Viennese Tuning that would have been in vogue at the time of its composition.

Rinat plays a d-bass by Matheus Albany, a gift from his colleague and friend Alexander Stepanov. He uses Pirastro Eudoxa strings.

  • Who's writing these descriptions? This is not in Es (E-flat) Major, or even E Major (like the title says). This is in D Major. Same problem with the Vanhal Concerto video.

  • @PorcupineFloyd68 Thanks for your comments. What Rinat was trying to emphasise was that these pieces were originally written in Es Major. His performance here is in D Major due to the problems associated with transposing the entire accompaniment. I've clarified the descriptions to make this clearer.

  • @viennachan1 I'm hearing this piece/video for the first time, and I agree with your comment. Very nicely performed in terms of pure technique. But just a bit more slowly, I feel, would have revealed something much deeper and warmer.

  • THAT INSTRUMENT IS BEAUTIFUL.

  • Fantastic playing. Just way too fast, i think, which doesn'y really serve the piece.

  • *good. ;)

  • Realy great he is realy godo.

  • @BassCausality I know. I only have one Rinat recording and it's pretty old
