On 6th August the world will remember the day the atomic bomb was first used, 60 years ago. In 1945 Hiroshima was a thriving part of Japan's war industry. Trams ferried many thousands of troops to and fro. Operating the trams was a team of young bubbly tram girls, who loved their work and who had all their lives to look forward to. But then the bomb was dropped on their city and time stopped for the tram girls. Powerful and unique archive takes us back to that terrible day.

  • I don't care what anyone says.. those innocent people didn't deserve to be bombed. Why would innocent civilians need to pay for something they didn't even do? I live in America and I love my country but in no way am I happy with a lot of decisions that were made. It's no surprise that such a significant amount of the world can't stand us.

  • wow, i really hope all of those ladies are still alive :/ God bless their families.

  • An American dirty job, and is contuning now.

  • thanks to Journeyman Pictures for putting together all these awesome videos.

the japanese civilians did nothing wrong. they were just puppets manipulated by the mindless leaders at the top, only to suffer these results for their deference.

  • That was an amazing documentary, I live in Japan and I am American. I am often sad about what the people went through. I am in the US Navy and I live in between the places where the only nuclear attacks in History took place. I am inspired by the resilience and strength of the Japanese.

  • to those who say the Japaneese deserved the bomb, word of caution, everyone WILL eventually get exactly what they deserve.

  • @P1MP3TTE the lesson we learn is that way more people wouldve died without the bombing. The bomb saved many innocent lives on both allies and the japanese side. If America had to go through a full scale invasion of japan, many more japanese civilians wouldve died. Overall not only did japan deserve the bomb. but it was also good for everyone.

  • I don't think they deserved that. In the war many innocent lives were lost on all sides. Yes many died at the hands of japanese soldiers and it was a terrible and disgusting thing but the lesson we should have learned from the war is not that the bombing was justified but that violence is never justified. What we should be is ashamed that a war happened and accept blame on all sides for ever thinking that war was the answer. If we keep trying to place blame history is doomed to repeat itself.

  • @Sohave There's still a tram that runs in Tokyo too!!! Toden Arakawa... J-gov is giving away 10,000 free trips to Japan to promote tourism. Not sure how to apply... hurry up over. Hiroshima is a wonderful city... I recommend visiting Kurashiki and Miya Jima too.

  • Trust me, China, Vietnam, Korea, are glad the bomb was in US hands.

  • @cedarvaleave You do realize the size difference in Japan and China right? Of course most Japanese know their history. Compare the size of the country and the population. China's been taken over by different empires so much to the point that there are if I can remember correctly over 52 different chinese cultures.
