My C64 is playing demos from the charts of 29.10.2009. (sorry about the stuttering at the beginning, it was not caused by the C64, it may be caused by my capture card, my video editor or youtube)

You need the following to play raw files (sample format for the C64) on the C64:

-C64 with MMC Replay (or MMC64) Cartridge
-raw files and the raw plugin on the SD card which is inserted into the MMC Replay

The samples are played using the sid chip (sound interface device) in the C64.

The songs are played for technical demonstration of the C64 and expansion hardware. No copyright infringement intended.

  • any chance you could make a video of the actual hardware playing ?

  • @Dreamlgider look to the video answer, I made a video showing my C64 playing the music :)

  • that's pretty awesome :)

does the mmc add any additional ram to the system or just works as a really fast disk ?

  • @Dreamlgider I do not think that it adds RAM to the C64 that can used by programs (I think it has some RAM for the firmware and d64-images). Even if it adds RAM to the C64, the RAM is not needed by the raw-player because it only needs a few KB and loads the audio data directly from the sd card. The MMC replay is a SD-card reader which provide a filebrowser, can load plugins, mount d64 files (but has no 1541 emulation) and can act as a cartridge like retro replay, action replay etc.

  • is this really coming from the SID ?

  • @Dreamlgider Yes, the raw-plugin uses the SID to play the music, no additional audio hardware needed.
