Amazing how Annette Hanshaw's popularity has blossomed in a new century because of a wonderful animated "Sita Sings The Blues" film. This song is incredible, her performance is filled with style & enthusiasm. When she holds the note on the word "whooooo's that knockin' at my door," I love it. She's attractive & in one of her other "videos" where she sings live at a mic -- she seems to have a pleasant stage personality. She may just be one of the forgotten mothers of white female jazz vocalists.

Joe Venutti, Adrian Rollini, and Eddie Lang are among the jazz greats in Annette's backing band.

Christ she was beautiful!

this is my favourite song now ^_^

In some ways I think it's best she retired when she did. The best jazz 'sound' was from around 26-33 before the change in 1934. Along with her great voice, it is that early authentic sound which makes every recording of hers virtually perfect.

@Wiiosten If you go to the sita sings the blues website and download the transcript, the lyrics are in there for I think all of the songs in the film
