Take a ride on this special D60LFR from Burnhamthorpe and Dixie to Burnhamthorpe and the East Mall while on route 26 Burnhamthorpe. What's special with this bus is that the maintanence hatch behind the rear seats wasn't shut properly and it tends to swing open a lot, so you can hear what the engine sounds like, like you were listening to it from the outside of the bus.

Powertrain: Handy Dandy Cummins ISM with the Allison B500R, 6 speed tranny

  • I wonder why New Flyer discontinued the meritor axles

  • yeah. The Meritor axles are very quiet.

  • The Meritor axles doesn't has those high pitch sound unlike the man axle in which it has high pitch sound

  • Yup. M.A.N. axles tend to be a lot louder than the competition from Arvin-Meritor.

  • So it is from the axle basically?

  • Its not the tires. Its the differential and the planetary gears at the ends of the axle.

  • That tire sound sound so high pitch as the bus accelerate.
