A Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer cartoon. This is Hanna and Barbera's last one-shot effort for MGM before shifting their focus entirely on the Tom and Jerry series. This is one of their two World War II propaganda shorts that they made, the other being the Tom & Jerry short "The Yankee Doodle Mouse". This cartoon follows the life of a dim-witted dog going through military training. This is the unedited version. The version that has aired on TCM has an edit near the beginning to remove the dog's dream about attacking the Japanese enemy.

  • Dude why they took the part out with the Japs? I think that's dumb. They were our enemies at the time, so who cares? That was fucking funny as hell! That little character looked like one of Shin-chan's friends that the dog was beating up. We need cartoons like this about anti- Taliban, Hamas, Al Qada and all the other shits out there who are our enemies! These type of cartoons are kick ass!

  • I adore Scott Bradley's musical scores :D

  • 日本兵は山本五十六か東条英機がモデル?

  • @Japanamaniac south park

  • @Toyman1982 Because the Japanese attacked the US and the Germans did not: put yourself in that era and try to understand how much that affected the US at the time. Trying to censor or sanitize history is dangerous: people should know how things truly were.

  • @ProgLiberty i do not see where this person is saying that only rast 'stuff' is funny; he is talking about ridiculing enemies which is in fact very effective considering how little humour these Taliban & Al Qaeda types actually have; nothing reduces an enemy like ridicule especially those who take themselves waaayyyyy too seriously.

As to the WWII era Japanese soldier in this clip: it is pretty tame to show him running from a barking dog, no? He did not lift a leg on him.

  • Haha Spike from Tom and Jerry is a war dog.

  • @Japanamaniac You seem to be implying that only racist stuff is the most funny. Wouldn't it be more clever for someone to figure out how to be funny without being racist? Racist stuff is just lazy. And it's a proven scientific fact that when humans use racism it has a detrimental effect on peacetime relations with the people stereotyped.

  • dont forget to buy your bonds

  • PETA is not happy.

If you only knew how graciously kind the japs were to their POWs during tht time and before. I mean, just for starters read about the 1937 Massacre in Nanking by these conscientious sympathetic Japanese soldiers You have to consider time and place on these things and learn to cut some slack on those deeply affected by it. but perhaps you don't care as long as what they did to hundreds of thousands of their victims didn't affect you, making the japs your dearest friends

  • Funny dog.
