In the pictures that follow you will see some small ornaments which have been very popular as Christmas tree ornaments. They can be made out of solid pieces of wood that have good grain contrast or combinations of various woods glued together to give interesting patterns. I will take you through the basic steps of fabrication. Each piece is unique because of the woods used and the central pattern. Almost any pattern can be used as long as it is symetrical about the center line. You may have to make your own special lathe tools for doing some of cuts for stars or hearts but that is easy to do by grinding the tang of old files to the shape desired. Questions ? • Sir I really appreciate the quality in your work it's getting harder and harder to come by it these days

  • Why dont you make Colombian Trompos? I would love to see them for sale.

  • Are you still working with wood?

  • I have sat here glued to your videos, but I have still not been able to work out how you work out the cuts that create the various finished patterns in the wooden items. I can see how you have turned the heart but don't understand how you worked it out.......

Absolutely superb items. Thank you for shareing

  • Thanks for the comments I'm glad the videos are helpful.Just cut down a large Russian Olive tree today so have lots of wood ro play with now.

  • Outstanding work, David! Thanks for the videos! I'm just starting to learn how to use my dad's wood lathe after his passing. He made beautiful bowls, lamps, and candlestick holders. I have much to learn, but your videos have shown me what my father couldn't.

  • Beautiful work, Calvin. Do you also put your name on the bottom of your work? That is something I was taught when I first started turning. Name, date and type of wood. It's a great idea. Thanks for the inspiration!

    Blessings,

    Susan
