State of the Union: President Obama set an ambitious energy production goal in his State of the Union Address. He wants 80 percent of U.S. energy to come from "clean energy" sources - including nuclear, renewables, natural gas and "clean coal" - by 2035. Is that goal realistic? Our Mix panelists, Sen. John Barrasso, R-WY, and Rep. Earl Blumenauer, D-OR, discuss whether Congress will act on the president's call.
On Plugged-In: Vice President Biden pushes the president's electric car agenda by suggesting that the $7,500 tax credit now available become a rebate, straight from the dealer. Republicans members of Congress grill the co-chairmen of the National Commission on the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and Offshore Drilling. And the White House says goodbye to its top energy and climate adviser.
Military Goes Green: When most people think of the military, they might think of "green," but do they think about saving energy? The Department of Defense spends more than $16 billion a year on petroleum based fuels, but now the Navy has a mandate to cut energy use dramatically in the next 15 years. Lee Patrick Sullivan goes to the top brass to find out how that will happen. He watches as the newest fighter jet - the biofuel powered "Green Hornet" takes off, and he visits the word's first hybrid combat ship.
On the Hot Zone: The Ford Focus is names "Innovative Green Car of the Year" at the Washington Auto Show.
Model of Efficiency: Former CIA Director James Woolsey has been sounding the alarm about oil dependence for years, arguing that conserving energy use is not just good for the environment but vital to national security. But after talking the talk, does he really walk the walk? Find out as Woolsey takes Susan McGinnis on a tour of his ultra-energy-efficient home - including a 3.5 kilowatt solar array, a geothermal heat pump and specially designed windows. He also takes Susan for a spin in his new Chevy Volt - which he got before just about anyone else - and talks about how he saves fuel with his other vehicles.
