I can't believe Shirley was 58 in this. She was a mezzo who switched to soprano rather late in life and she still sounds wonderful after a 30 year career.

Hermoso !

Do not forget her natural range is that of a mezzo soprano, and here she is in one of the World's great lyric soprano roles, adding strength to the voice of not a young girl, but Tosca, a seasoned star performer with an established career. If you want to convince yourself just how good Shirley Verrett is in the above duet, please check her out in the Samson & Delilah clips and Verdi's Ave Maria, elsewhere. What a gal!

@GraphicParty LP sounds great here. But, even LP thought Bjoerling " a God". I have the interview wherein he said JB was the greatest "Italian" tenor. I imagine he took some heat from the Italians for that. In a later special he spoke of Caruso as "the base of the building" for all tenors that followed.

@madisonelectronic i looooove jussi but, jussi's instrument didnt have as much beauty as pav's and jussi's terrible italian dialect is just to disturbing to me...buuuuut, he' s in my top ten for sure!
Boy, I miss his beautiful singing. Those 'Live from the Met' telecasts just aren't the same anymore. A great artist is gone from this world.

This is one of my favorite duets. I've never seen this one and God Bless Luciano, he and Shirley were in fine form. Thanks Tenore23.
