The only exceptions to this law are non indigenous species such as English Sparrow or Starlings. The best thing to do would be to bring an injured bird to a licensed rehabber, where it will have the greatest chance at survival. (BUT) I really respect what you tried to do here, and if you cannot find a rehabber in your area, feel free to message me and I will do all I can to give you the right info on food/husbandry etc.
Cheers

Looks like you tried to do a nice thing. And I hope it makes you feel better to know that he was certainly flying at the end there. Of course, I don't intend this to come across as rude or uncaring, because I give you a lot of credit for trying to help the bird, but it is illegal to keep and/or rehabilitate a wild bird with a the proper license. Look up the Migratory Bird Act, if you like. I work at a wild bird rescue, so I promise that I'm not just making this up.

I have to hit the hay now. I'm falling asleep in front of this monitor, but I want to see the entire video. I'll be back first thing in the AM, and for part I as well.
You know, you're really a good egg. ;-)

I figure it's the least I can do. I feel pretty responsible because it's my cats that keep bringing stuff in. I'll save what I can.

I have a sneaking suspicion that your little bird finally flew, since he had flown the previous time. I'm sorry you didn't get to know the final outcome though. I'm sure you would rather have known.

Thanks kalacaw. Yep, it was a bit of a disappointment not being able to see him take wing. I'm guessing he made it though. He seemed very frisky and healthy. One thing's for certain, he sure could run!
