This is a project to waste thousands of dollars worth of my time to make a broken $100 tool into a useful $100 tool.

Primarily this whole project has been to learn how to do some things, but ultimately I will have a variable size vise that will use the bed of my cnc milling machine as the bed of the vise. This will allow me to work within the entire Z range of the machine instead of sacrificing part of it to the depth of a vise clamped to the table.

I am not a machinist, and I have never had any machine work classes. I'm just playing and learning.

To bad I didn't know about slitting saws before I startedthis project.

  • I might add for anybody who wants a table level vise that this thing is a monster for a small mill. I plan to cet the top down as far as it will go and stilltrap the lead screw on the clamping jaw. I could have made thesmae vice much faster bu whacking three pieces of aluminum on the table saw. Drilling t-bolt holes in two of them, and drilling and threading a bolt hole in one of those.
