Lecture by Mark Driscoll. "And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done." (Acts 2:42-43). The church is the vehicle through which we are sanctified through and through which God has chosen to reach the lost. To the disciples Jesus said, "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my) witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." (Acts 1:9)

Relevant Scriptures: (not exhaustive)
Image of Jesus: Eph 5:22-32
Unity: 1 Cor 12, Eph 5:1-7
mission: Acts 1:4-9, John 17:15--18, John 17:18, John 20:21, Eph 3:10-11

The Church: The local church is a community of regenerated believers who confess Jesus Christ as Lord. In obedience to Scripture they organize under qualified leadership, gather regularly for preaching and worship, observe the biblical sacraments of baptism and communion, are unified by the Spirit, are disciplined for holiness, and scatter to fulfill the great commandment and the great commission as missionaries to the world for God's glory and their joy.

Theology: What does scripture say about the Church?

How would you define the church in your own words?
What does it look like for the church to image God?
How is the church like a body?
What is the purpose of the church?
How is that purpose accomplished by the church?
Implications: How does our understanding of the Church affect our daily lives?
What does it mean to you to be part of the church?
How has God blessed you through the church?
How has God used you to bless other members of the church?
Where is God calling you to be a more faithful member of the church?
Where are you being called to participate in the mission of the church?
What does it mean for you to truly own the mission of the church?

Prayer: Take time to Reflect and meditate on the death of Christ.

Thank God for His grace shown us through the church.
Thank God for the opportunity to participate in His redemption of Mankind.
Pray for unity within the church.
Pray that many would come to know Jesus through the witness of Mars Hill.
