I can atest to the power of the sling. As a teenager, I hunted rabbits, often moving, with a sling and a fist-sized rock would dispatch them easily out to about 40 yards. Just make sure the rock never slips out of the pouch except for when you purposefully release it as it can do the same damage to others in your party. Make the pouch large enough to envelope a larger rock. Largest animal I killed was a small wild pig with a head shot at 25 yards.

@crypter27 Primitive slings can throw fist sized rocks as opposed to marble size projectiles for a slingshot. But slingshots are much more accurate and easier to use. Both items have their merits.

I made some outta jute and some outta hemp. if you make a little loom, you can form your pouch and chords in one seamless strand. these aren't that accurate, even with lotsa practice, but can outrange any slingshot easily. Ancient Picts made sharpened iron football shape projectiles, and shot a few at a time. Roman writers said they outranged roman archers, and pierced their armor. thats pretty cool. thanks for posting
