If you are into slide guitar, this man does some AMAZING right hand picking using a thumb flat-pick and all four fingers. Check out his right hand picking technique during the solo about 45 seconds into the video, WOW! Just when you think he couldn't be any better, at a minute and 25 seconds in he does some right hand picking combinations that boggle the mind of us mere mortals. Unbelievable! It will definitely make you want to hear this great artist live!

  • Can't wait to show this to my son! Maybe he will go get a real guitar, learn to play & get rid of the plastic one from Xbox ;=}

  • I got to shake his hand after a show last year...unfortunately, nothing rubbed off and my slide playing hasn't improved much.

  • His left hand is no slouch either

  • @jonbernard3 they were both unbelievable!

  • he is a Master

  • I get to see sonny at the Winnipeg Folk Fest this summer :) Levon Helm too.

  • Well, ff you never played with the fingers on your E-guitar, it seems amazing.s Never saw Johnny Winter? Or Jeff Beck? Or Knopfler?

    What I find more amazing is his technique playing the slide and also using his other fingers of the slide hand - that combination is really great!

  • Bad Ass!

  • @rickrudd I found it interesting that you named Jerry Reed as a great along with Chet. I always considered JR as a great player too. After I came acroos some vids on YT of them playing to gather. And watching JR trying to keep up with Chet. Made me relize even more that Chet was and is one of the very best ever. But I'm sure you agree with that. If you havn't seen the vids you should check them out

  • What scale is normally used to solo with a slide? Just regular pentatonic?

  • I saw Sonny @ the Museum of making music a

    year ago with David Lindley(a very intimate venue)

    no more than 100 in attendance. My good friend

    was David's road manager at the time & It was a

    very special evening. Both David & Sonny are the best, HANDS DOWN!!
