I vote for the NES mainly because of the last 2 games for each system that you featured! Over the years, The Legend of Zelda has had far more success than any other series of games for any video game system. I am pretty sure the Zelda series is responisble for well over 50% of Nintendo's success over the years. Nintendo has the original Legend of Zelda game to thank for that.

@SteveWilkosJR Who cares about front load shit. NES (in fact Famicom, not NES) became most cloned console in the world. Were there any Segas with keyboard and BASIC carts? (NS-HUBASIC, G-BASIC), as well as music editing (simple tracker) software and even Epson LPT interface? I barely think so. Lots of things made for Famicom (and its later clones) were never released for NES.
Maybe SMS had more powerful hardware. No doubt. But Famicom became most advanced console of its time. No doubt as well.

Both are good.

SEGA MASTER SYSTEM > NES

You see... one minor issue.
Are there any brand new Sega Master System consoles (or their hardware clones) and games on sale now? No.
Are there any brand new Famicom/NES consoles (or their hardware clones) and games on sale now? Yes.Clones.
NES/Famicom platform was hugely pirate-supported in 1990-s. That's why this platform is _still_ alive. You can easily buy a new Famicom-compatible console and games for it. To find a new SMS is practically impossible. So... NES wins, thanks to pirates.

Why are the top comments so long?

Yes, I think that the Master System had better graphics, but the NES had the more quality games. I do think that the Genesis destroyed the SNES as far as games though.
i think you should have tried to do games released on both systems- on that note, i think this face off is unfair.... nintendo had companies sign contracts saying IE if mega man 2 is on the Nintendo 8-bit, you can NOT release this game on any other system..... so really it wasn't NES vs. Sega it's Sega vs nes, capcom, konami, sunsoft, etc .some of them did both anyway, taito, and hudson (hudson by creating clones of their own games)

I'm from England and grew up on the SMS and loved every minute of it and always as a kid compared it to the NES on graphics, sound, everything, I was certain the SMS was better in every aspect. I'm now alot older have a solid collection for both consoles and I can honestly say in terms of graphics, its the SMS hands down but when it comes to the most importaing thing,GAMEPLAY the NES edges it ! SMS games do look much better but you have more Fun with the NES + it has much more games...
